I hardly follow any great dietary and exercise regime. But I love the outdoors. I do hiking, skiing, dragon boating and capoeira (a form of Afro – Brazilian dance form that incorporates self – defense maneuvers.

In spite of a busy schedule and shift work now that I am working at A&E department, I will definitely go for my sporting activities. I even had to make my dragonboat team turn back and pick me up from the pier as I was late due to shiftwork. But it was a great outlet to relief stress just rowing with all my fellow NHG colleagues on the Singapore River on a Sunday afternoon.

Soaring NHG Spirit

All hands on deck... NHG CEO, Dr Lim and team captain Dr Shyard lending their strength to the NHG team

Health Minister, Mr Khaw Boon Wan sharing our joy.

"We did it!!"

The "Row & Roar" - Health Family Dragon Boat Race has ended excitingly on 23 April 2005. Below are some of the highlights brought to you by our NHG team!

“SHIOK…!!!” was what the team captain Shyard Wong had to say after leading the NHG team to victory at the MOH Health Family Dragon Boat Race. And “shiok” best describes the feeling of camaraderie and team spirit among the rowers and supporters at Kallang Basin.

Doctors, nurses, administrative staff – from the rank and file to NHG CEO Dr Lim Suet Wun – everyone was in high spirits, together as One in NHG. And it was sweet victory when our teams came in first and second runner-up in the finals of the race.

Radiation therapist Ren Wei from NUH says: “It was a wonderful feeling rowing together as an NHG team.” Dr Jane Tan from TTSH, still reeling from the euphoria says: “It was great fun! I’m hooked!”

“This is so happening,” says coding clerk Zubaidah AG, who was seen cheering loudly. She came armed with party poppers. One of the participants in the race, Zubaidah also joins in the annual NHG tournaments in basketball, netball, badminton and volleyball. “Anything also I eat, so must exercise lah!” says Zubaidah.

Of the MOH Health Family – we were the loudest, noisiest and the jolliest around. IMH big band sound led by assistant nursing director Peter Wong rallied NHG supporters to cheer on our teams in the race. “You can count on us to create a ruckus to add to the fun in the spirit of NHG!”
